Elek Straub

Former head of Magyar Telekom Group and general manager of IBM Hungary. Elek has been an advisor, private investor and angel investor as well.

Elek Straub

Elek has been one of the most active individual angel investors in Hungary. His industry knowledge, experience and personality are among the strongest assets of our Fund. From 1995 to 2006, Elek was the head of the Magyar Telekom Group (Matáv Group), the leading provider of fixed and mobile telecommunications and Internet services in Hungary and other countries in the region. Throughout his 11 years tenure he has overseen multiple rounds of the company’s privatization, it’s IPO at the Budapest and New York Stock Exchange, introduction of state-of-the-art telecommunications technologies and the start of its international expansion. Before joining Magyar Telekom, Elek was the country general manager of IBM Hungary.

György is one of Hungary’s best known faces in the IT-focused angel investor community. He brings invaluable local market knowledge and investor experience to our Fund. György started his career as a journalist and joined the Magyar Telekom Group in 1998 where he led the establishment of Hungary’s market leader Internet portal [origo]. From 2003 György was the CEO of T-Online Hungary and held executive positions at Magyar Telekom where he was responsible for new media company acquisitions, new business development in media, e-commerce and data management services lines and the establishment of the company’s innovation center, Kitchen Budapest. From 2008 he was COO of the Alternative Businesses and Corporate Development Business Unit of the leading Hungarian telecommunications company where he gained solid expertise in supporting entrepreneurs to build and grow their businesses.

Csaba Kákosy

Csaba brings over 12 years regulatory and financial experience, a strategic mindset and an extensive international network to our Fund. Csaba was a regulatory expert in the Hungarian banking sector representing the Hungarian central bank at the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the OECD in Paris for 5 years. In 2004 Csaba moved to become chief of staff at the Ministry of Economy and Transport where he played a key role in its operations and rationalization. In 2007 he became Minister of Economy and Transport in Hungary where he served until the break-up of the coalition in 2008. Since then, Csaba has been a Founding Partner at Reservoir Strategies, a strategy consulting firm with a strong focus on the energy, transport and telecommunications industries.

Aurél Pásztor

Studied and worked in Japan as an economist. Aurel has a great experience in international private equity transactions. He worked with leading Private Equity houses.

Aurél Pásztor

Aurel’s business analysis skills and extensive exposure to international private equity transactions help the Fund appropriately valuate businesses. Aurel has studied Economics and Sociology in Hungary and Japan and earned his BA from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. In 2007 he joined L.E.K. Consulting, a global strategy and management consulting firm, in Tokyo as an Associate, and from 2010 worked as an Associate Consultant at the firm’s Munich office. Aurel has worked closely with leading global PE houses as well as medical technology and retail companies on due diligence projects, market entry and business unit strategy assignments from both the commercial and vendor side.

Zsolt Weiszbart

Zsolt Weiszbart joined Day One Capital as a Venture Partner in 2019. Ha has been an active angel investor in tech startups since 2010, when he finished his studies at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Zsolt Weiszbart joined Day One Capital as a Venture Partner in 2019. Ha has been an active angel investor in tech startups since 2010, when he finished his studies at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. In 2011, he cofounded Valley Connect, one of the first seed investment programs in Hungary. Distinction Ltd – a member of the first cohort – became one of the most notable startup success stories in Hungary, when Skyscanner acquired the team in 2014. Being the only external investor, Zsolt helped the founders to build their company from 3 people to 35 employees, while their flagship app, Appflow was being deployed at over 15 million cell phones.
In 2013, Zsolt was the first investor in Nowtechnologies Inc, a leading startup in the field of smart wheelchair controls. Zsolt had an instrumental role in recruiting the CEO and in securing follow-on funding from Day One Capital in 2014 and later on from Hiventures as well in 2017.
In 2014 Zsolt established the White Summers Cofounder Program to provide pre-seed investment and comprehensive business and legal advice to young entrepreneurs with the help of White Summers, a Silicon Valley boutique law firm. A notable investment of the program is Shapr3D Inc. Besides the initial pre-seed investment, Zsolt introduced the project to Apple Inc, where Shapr3D became one of the flagship applications for the iPadPro. Zsolt also helped to secure a follow up funding from Pioneers Ventures (Austria) and was instrumental in pulling together their last fundraising round.
In spring 2017, with the former CEO and CTO of his first investment Distinction, Zsolt cofounded A3 Ventures, which is an advisory firm that invests in and mentors early stage startups with strong technical foundations. With the help of A3 Ventures, Shapr3D was able to build an international syndicate for their follow investment including Lifeline Ventures, Kima Ventures and InReach Ventures.
Until recently, Zsolt was the Managing Director of the Hungarian branch of IFS, a leading global ERP vendor, from where he has over 15 years of experience in working with enterprise software in Europe. Zsolt become the youngest country leader in IFS’s history at age 26 and grew the local team from 5 to 35 employees.
Besides being a Stanford University graduate, Zsolt holds an MBA from the Ohio University and he also has a Business Msc degree from the University of Pécs.

Judit is an experienced CFO with 20+ years in finance and VC, she is an economist by profession with postgrad legal and business studies.

Judit is an experienced CFO with 20+ years in finance, she is an economist by profession with postgrad legal and business studies in Hungary and Ireland (National University of Ireland, Galway). She practices as registered tax advisor and chartered accountant, has an overview of diverse fields like controlling, accounting, taxation, business administration and financing.
Within the team Judit is responsible for business planning, developing the finance and taxation strategy, cash management, financial due diligences, the investor relations and the coordination of the administrative and monitoring tasks. Having gained CFO experience in several organisations, Judit joined Day One in 2018. Previously she worked as CFO of a holding of large&medium-sized businesses in construction and public utilities.
From 2013 to 2015 she was the General Manager of Kaerous Capital Venture Capital Fund Manager, where she managed the daily operation of the company, coordinated investment decision making process, re-designed investment policy, operational processes and risk management. Until 2017 she led a healthcare start-up as a managing director. This health-care firm was one of the portfolio companies of Kaerous Capital VC.
Previously she was a CFO of a holding of large & medium-sized businesses in construction and public utilities where supervised and re-designed overall business processes and introduced an ERP. At early stage of her career she was relationship manager of ABN AMRO Bank for 4 years. Judit graduated from the University of Pécs, Faculty of Business & Economics as an Economist (MSc), and Faculty of Law as an Economist, specialised in Law (postgraduate studies).

First step

Write your business summary. Define clearly your product, your market and your customers. Give your growth performance and KPIs. Show us that your team is the best all around the globe to execute this project.

Second step

Time for evaulation. Meeting, analyzing and validating: these are the following steps. Based on facts, we are looking for your legitimate assumptions and execution plan.

Third step

We understand that time is against startups and we do our best to ask our questions straight and fast. At some point we will run out of questions and then we make a decision. If we are both impressed with each other, we sign the deal and we take you to the next level!
