Elek Straubmanaging partner, chairman of the board
Former head of Magyar Telekom Group and general manager of IBM Hungary. Elek has been an advisor, private investor and angel investor as well.
György Simómanaging partner
Best known in the IT-focused angel investor community. Former co-founder of Origo.hu and CEO of T-Online Hungary. Solid expertise in supporting entrepreneurs.
Csaba Kákosymanaging partner, CEO
Energy, transport and telecommunications - key experiences in Csaba's life. 12 years of regulatory and financial experience, former Minister of Economy.
Elek has been one of the most active individual angel investors in Hungary. His industry knowledge, experience and personality are among the strongest assets of our Fund. From 1995 to 2006, Elek was the head of the Magyar Telekom Group (Matáv Group), the leading provider of fixed and mobile telecommunications and Internet services in Hungary and other countries in the region. Throughout his 11 years tenure he has overseen multiple rounds of the company’s privatization, it’s IPO at the Budapest and New York Stock Exchange, introduction of state-of-the-art telecommunications technologies and the start of its international expansion. Before joining Magyar Telekom, Elek was the country general manager of IBM Hungary.
György is one of Hungary’s best known faces in the IT-focused angel investor community. He brings invaluable local market knowledge and investor experience to our Fund. György started his career as a journalist and joined the Magyar Telekom Group in 1998 where he led the establishment of Hungary’s market leader Internet portal [origo]. From 2003 György was the CEO of T-Online Hungary and held executive positions at Magyar Telekom where he was responsible for new media company acquisitions, new business development in media, e-commerce and data management services lines and the establishment of the company’s innovation center, Kitchen Budapest. From 2008 he was COO of the Alternative Businesses and Corporate Development Business Unit of the leading Hungarian telecommunications company where he gained solid expertise in supporting entrepreneurs to build and grow their businesses.
Csaba brings over 12 years regulatory and financial experience, a strategic mindset and an extensive international network to our Fund. Csaba was a regulatory expert in the Hungarian banking sector representing the Hungarian central bank at the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the OECD in Paris for 5 years. In 2004 Csaba moved to become chief of staff at the Ministry of Economy and Transport where he played a key role in its operations and rationalization. In 2007 he became Minister of Economy and Transport in Hungary where he served until the break-up of the coalition in 2008. Since then, Csaba has been a Founding Partner at Reservoir Strategies, a strategy consulting firm with a strong focus on the energy, transport and telecommunications industries.
Studied and worked in Japan as an economist. Aurel has a great experience in international private equity transactions. He worked with leading Private Equity houses.
Judit is an experienced CFO with 20+ years in finance and VC, she is an economist by profession with postgrad legal and business studies.
Dóri has worked with growth funds for 5 years prior to joining Day One. Through portfolio management and transactional activities, she got involved with companies in life sciences, software/SaaS and fashion.
Aurel’s business analysis skills and extensive exposure to international private equity transactions help the Fund appropriately valuate businesses. Aurel has studied Economics and Sociology in Hungary and Japan and earned his BA from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. In 2007 he joined L.E.K. Consulting, a global strategy and management consulting firm, in Tokyo as an Associate, and from 2010 worked as an Associate Consultant at the firm’s Munich office. Aurel has worked closely with leading global PE houses as well as medical technology and retail companies on due diligence projects, market entry and business unit strategy assignments from both the commercial and vendor side.
Eva joined Day One Capital team as an investment director in May 2014 after gaining experience in the Silicon Valley startup buzz over almost a year. She graduated from the Corvinus University of Budapest as an investment analyst. She was actively involved in the development of the Hungarian capital market while working at the Budapest Stock Exchange. Over the five years she spent there, not only did she support management decisions with strategic analysis, but she also contributed to development of the financial literacy by giving presentations and organizing other educational events. She spent almost a year in San Francisco due to a Fulbright scholarship, where she studied at Golden Gate University, while she also worked as a volunteer at Keiretsu Forum, a global angel investor community.
Dora joined the Day One team in February 2018 and she brings more than five years of venture capital and private equity experience to the table. Having worked with growth stage funds she prepared valuations, structured deals, negotiated and executed transactions. Throughout her years of portfolio management activities, she got involved in a variety of industry sectors such as life sciences, software/SaaS and fashion. She assisted several portfolio companies in organizing subsequent fundraising rounds, working with investors from the CEE region and the USA. Dora holds a BA in Finance and an MA in Management from Corvinus University of Budapest. A former member of Rajk Laszlo College for Advanced Studies, Hungary’s biggest youth-run student organization, she teaches introductory finance and VC courses as a lecturer.
Bernát Nacsainvestment manager
Bernat has worked for international research institutes, fintech startup and investment bank, studied in Austria and the US.
Edit Gulácsioffice manager
Spent 5 years in retail fashion and 5 years in family business. She's been the operational support member of Day One since 2016.
Janos gained his first experience in finance while discovering the Indian microfiance system. After that he ventured off to set up a media platform closely with McKinsey which later got nominated as top 10 most promising social enterprise in the UK. He was also VP of Operations at SPCE, a company that is currently disrupting the London housing market. He studied Economics, Organisational Psychology and Law at LSE, Leicester and Geneva. Janos’s responsibilty is to find the coolest companies in the CEE region.
Bernat was previously an Investment Analyst Intern at Day One, and from September 2017 he joined as an Investment Manager, working on sourcing new deals, performing due diligence, and supporting portfolio company performance. Bernat has previously worked as a Business Analyst at Peak Financial Services, as a Research Assistant at University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and as a Valuation Risk Analyst at Morgan Stanley in Budapest, where he was pricing equity derivatives and structured trades in the firm’s proprietary investment portfolio. Bernat studied Economics at the University of Chicago and graduated from the University of Vienna with a BSc degree in Economics and was ranked at the top 2% of his reference group.
Edit is an economist by education. She worked five years in retail, managed stores of premium and high-end fashion brands. For another five years she dealt with back office activities for family business and her own venture. In 2016, Edit joined the Day One Capital team as operational support for the team’s success.
